Labforge Attended Waterloo Region Aero Expo 2026.
Labforge Showcases Smart Perception Tech at the Inaugural Aero Expo 2026
The Waterloo Region’s aerospace ecosystem took center stage last week at the inaugural Aero Expo 2026. Held on Wednesday, September 16, at Catalyst137 in Kitchener, the highly anticipated event was hosted by AeroWR in partnership with the Accelerator Centre, the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce, and the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce.
Serving as a marquee event of Waterloo Tech Week 2026, the expo brought together over 400 attendees and 40 exhibitors, running alongside Communitech’s Dual-Use Defence Summit. The focus was clear: driving the future of aviation, defence, and dual-use technologies. From advanced manufacturing and robotics to next-generation sensing and artificial intelligence, the event proved that the Waterloo Region is rapidly becoming a premier hub for aerospace innovation.
Among the pioneering companies pushing these boundaries was Labforge, showcasing how intelligent perception systems are redefining capabilities in the air and on the ground.
Smart Sensors for a New Era of Aerospace
As aerospace and defence sectors increasingly rely on autonomous systems and real-time data, the demand for fast, reliable, and intelligent edge computing has never been higher. At Aero Expo 2026, Labforge demonstrated exactly how its smart perception and tracking technology is answering that call.

Known for embedding powerful AI processing directly into compact perception hardware, Labforge is developing Snow Flea as an integrated ground-based tactical electronic warfare and surveillance system for the Arctic. Snow Flea integrates a multi-modal sensor suite including HDR EO/IR cameras, configurable long-range radar, military-grade seismic arrays, acoustic sensors, and SDRs for EW. At the core of the system is a distributed AI architecture. Specialized AI models on each node and the Command Centers work together to provide comprehensive situational awareness and generate actionable intelligence.
Labforge’s presence at Aero Expo 2026 highlighted critical solutions for the modern aerospace landscape:
- Edge AI Processing: Processing high-resolution visual data directly on-device removes latency, allowing Snow Flea and its autonomous aerial vehicles (UAVs) to make split-second decisions without relying on a constant cloud connection.
- Dual-Use Applications: Perfect for the expo’s dual-use theme, Labforge’s technology smoothly bridges commercial and defence needs. With its wide array of sensors, Snow Flea applications range from industrial automation and tracking to tactical situational awareness and environmental monitoring.
- High-Precision Sensing: In automated environments and counter-UAVs, clarity and accuracy are non-negotiable. Labforge’s systems ensure heavy computing workloads are handled efficiently without sacrificing power or payload capacity.
Collaboration at the Core
For Labforge, the Aero Expo was more than a chance to display hardware; it was an opportunity to collaborate. By connecting with local tech leaders, academic researchers, and government stakeholders, Labforge reinforced its role in the region’s collaborative ecosystem. Building the future of aerospace requires a mix of hardware precision and software intelligence, a sweet spot where Labforge thrives.
As the momentum from Waterloo Tech Week continues to build, Labforge remains dedicated to pushing the limits of what smart perception systems can achieve, ensuring the next generation of aerospace technology is smarter, faster, and safer than ever before.
About Labforge
Founded in 2013, Labforge builds unified situational awareness platforms that deliver resilient tactical defence in extreme, contested environments. Flagship solutions integrate visual, thermal, radar, depth, acoustic, seismic, and RF sensing into a unified situational awareness for industrial and defence use cases. This allows the system to detect and track complex threats like drone swarms. Validated under Canadian defence innovation programs, Labforge provides a sovereign, open-architecture common operating picture.
