Labforge is a Waterloo, ON based technology company that designs, develops, and sells smart cameras.

Labforge was established in 2013 with founders from the University of Waterloo’s real-time embedded software group and the Waterloo autonomous vehicles lab.

We are funded in part by the Ontario Centers of Innovation, Department of National Defence, and Innovative Solutions Canada. Customers and partners include University of Waterloo, Magna International, Royal Canadian Air Force, Toshiba, Mouser Electronics, and Transport Canada.

Leadership Team

Yassir Rizwan

CEO, co-founder

Yassir is passionate about robotics and cameras. He has led teams that built drone autopilots for high payload deliveries and lately cutting-edge cameras that surpass competition. Early on he worked at Raytheon, Hatch, and Husky. He graduated from the University of Waterloo with a BASc. and MASc. in Mechatronics Engineering. His vision drives the company’s direction.

Thomas Reidemeister

CTO, co-founder

Worked on cutting-edge cloud solutions for IBM, jet engine control systems for Pratt & Whitney, and safety-critical controllers for rockets, utilising his technical prowess. With a natural knack for programming and hardware, together with a PhD in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, he is pioneering the development of new vision-based solutions for Labforge.

Sebastian Fischmeister

Director, co-founder

Provides both the theoretical and practical know-how for the development of innovative applications. He is a professor at the University of Waterloo and director of the Embedded Systems Group. As a real-time, safety-critical computing expert, he can look back on research collaborations with Google, Tier 1 Automotive companies, APMA, Pratt & Whitney, and leading researchers around the world. At Labforge, he is in charge of fostering the efficiency and progress of our smart solutions.

Shardul Kazi

Director

Mentored and inspired teams to achieve breakthrough performances, drove operational efficiency and execution of product development both at multinationals and small startups working in the semiconductor and systems area. As an executive mentor at Miller Center’s Global Social Benefit Institute at Santa Clara University, he coaches social entrepreneurs on business plans, investment materials, operations and financials. He holds a MASc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and drives the corporate strategy at Labforge to facilitate the company’s business growth. Previously CMO / COO at Toshiba.

Clint Robinson

Advisor

Brings substantial experience from the public and private sectors to the team, having worked in the information and communications technology industry and in government affairs. His forte lies in relation-building and growth management. He draws on his experience in intellectual property, trade, cybersecurity, telecommunications, technology, privacy and federal procurement to help Labforge grow. Previously at BlackBerry for over 9 years, contributing to their success with federal Governments across the world.
